Ron RichterThe budget for the City of Sheridan was approved in the form of a resolution by the Sheridan City Council Monday night. Not all of the Council were in agreement with the budget as it was presented. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the story.
The budget resolution passed by a vote of 5 to 2, with Councilors Andrew Patceg and Kristen Jennings voting against the resolution. Prior to the vote, Councilman Patceg had this to say.
Mayor Rich Bridger responded to Councilman Patceg’s statement by saying this.
The following is an exchange between Councilors Terry Weitzel and Patceg, where Weitzel posed a question about the budget being unconstitutional, followed by Weitzel’s question of City Attorney Brendon Kerns.
The budget that was adopted for the fiscal year that begins on July 1 is in the amount of $97,225,679.

As a senior citizen, I like many will recall Councilor Patceg’s denial of support for the Hub. Thank you to Councilor Weitzel and attorney Kerns for confirming there is no conflict, as suggested by Mr. Patceg, with our state constitution. I support the budget.

At all levels of government, spending is out of control and much is not within the constitutional role of government. We are past 32 trillion federal debt and then we see the state overspending without capping property tax increases since big government spenders are greater in number than the small government ones in Cheyenne. Thankfully two council members – Jennings and Patceg – are willing to do the right thing. Much of what government is doing belongs to philanthropy. Everyone should look at Davy Crockett’s “Not Yours to Give” speech.
